 - Increased fire danger conditions due to low relative humidity
   this afternoon across parts of Central Georgia.

 - Light rain showers return on Wednesday, and brief light snow
   showers in the north Georgia mountains could bring very limited
   accumulations to higher elevations Wednesday night.

 - A brief warm up today through Wednesday will be followed by
   much colder air returning Thursday through the weekend.

.SHORT TERM...

A warmer night tonight brings above-freezing lows in the mid to
upper 30s for most of us, but big changes are on the way on
Wednesday. Before these changes, however, temperatures will still
warm to relatively mild levels for mid-January with highs again
reaching the 50s for the bulk of the area. A deep trough will plow
southward by late Wednesday, ushering a strong cold front into
the area by evening into Wednesday night. As has been mentioned
over the last several days, moisture return will be quite limited
in advance of this system with PWATs peaking around the 0.7" range
Wednesday afternoon. This will translate into primarily isolated
to scattered light rain showers Wednesday afternoon in Wednesday
evening in advance of the front before the bulk of the cold air
arrives.

Much colder Arctic air will arrive in short order by late
Wednesday evening into Wednesday night with temperatures quickly
dropping below freezing by early Thursday morning across north
Georgia. However, as this much colder, drier airmass invades,
moisture will quickly be scoured out, leading to little
opportunity for overlap between cold air and precipitation. As
such, only a limited window for a few snow showers will exist,
primarily for the higher elevations across far north Georgia from
late evening through around midnight as upslope flow increases.
All this is to continue to say that very little in the way of
accumulation is expected with only a light dusting possible
(primarily a half inch or less) in the mountains before
precipitation shuts off after midnight Thursday morning.
Otherwise, a couple of flurries could be seen farther southward,
but no impacts or accumulations will occur.

The most perceptible change will be in the form of the cold
temperatures with lows dropping back well below freezing across
north Georgia by Thursday morning. More on that in the long term
section below.

.LONG TERM...
(Thursday morning through next Monday)

The long term period will start off quite brisk following the
cold front passage Wednesday night, with Thursday morning low
temperatures in the 20s and breezy NW winds creating `feels like`
temps in the teens. This may put some areas in or near Cold
Weather Advisory criteria. Despite increasingly sunny skies during
the day, high temps on Thursday will only climb to the mid to
upper 30s in north GA and low to mid 40s in central GA. In the
higher terrain of north GA, highs will remain below freezing.
Across the area, the breezy winds will keep `feels like` temps in
the 20s during the day. The core of the cold airmass will pass off
to the east Thursday night, but under clear skies and rapidly
weakening winds, low temps will fall to the teens to low 20s.
Friday will remain dry and provide some brief relief from the cold
as winds turn out of the west-southwest and allow some warmer air
to filter in. Highs will rise to the mid to upper 40s in north GA
(outside the mountains), and low 50s in central GA.

To kick off the weekend, another cold front will approach the
area from the northwest Friday night into Saturday associated with
a system moving across the Great Lakes. There is still some
decent spread in guidance on the strength and timing of the front,
but confidence continues to gradually increase that the system
will be moisture-deprived and only lead to some light rain showers
in north and central GA. One caveat would be across the north GA
mountains where the shower coverage may be higher due to increased
moisture. Additionally, this area could again see a changeover to
snow showers as it will be closer to the cooler airmass to the
north. Behind the front, another shot of arctic air is expected
to drop across the area Saturday night through the start of next
week, with another risk for Cold Weather Advisory criteria Sunday
and Monday mornings with lows into the 20s and winds making
`feels like` temps even cooler. Precip-wise, most of the guidance
has the area remaining dry in a moisture- deprived airmass. As is
seemingly always the case this time of year with troughing over
the eastern US, there is a small selection of guidance that does
have some moisture moving through during this time with snow
showers or wintry mix, but the likelihood of this is very low.

VFR conditions will persist through Wednesday morning with cigs
more likely dropping to MVFR range after 18-20Z Wednesday. Before
then, high cirrus will increase overnight with VFR cigs 4-8 kft
from 12-18Z. Iso/sct -SHRA will be possible at MCN/CSG 12-17Z and
at ATL area sites by around 20Z Wednesday. Winds will remain W to
WSW with speeds 3-8 kts through tonight before increasing to 7-10
kts with gusts 15-20 kts possible after 20Z Weds.
